## You are allowed to estimate

The 20 feet part makes people oddly nervous. Nobody wants to turn an eye break into a geometry problem. You can estimate. The point is to stop focusing at laptop distance for a moment.

If you can look through a window, across a room, down a hall, or at something outside, you are probably close enough for a practical habit.

## Examples by workspace

- Small bedroom desk: look out the window or toward the farthest corner.
- Open office: look across the room, not at the next monitor.
- Cafe: look outside if possible, or toward the far wall.
- Multiple monitors: look past the whole setup, not from one display to another.

## Pair it with a timer

Once you know your distant target, the hard part is remembering to use it. Try the free Twenty web timer for a day, or use the calculator to sketch a break schedule before a long work block. The Mac app is only useful after that target is obvious.
